December 6, 2024 Today, an ordinary day turned extraordinary

After dinner, I checked my email as usual and found an unexpected message that instantly brightened my day—I had been named a Silver Award Winner by the Literary Titan Book Awards. I am now officially an award-winning author!

Was I surprised? Yes and no. Yes, because I didn’t expect recognition so soon after publishing Jade Reflections: Decoding the Western Zhou Dynasty. Honestly, I thought it would take decades for the world to notice my work. Yet, no, because I know the weight of what I’ve written. This book doesn’t just teach readers how to identify ancient jade or decipher the significance of Western Zhou jade—it offers a groundbreaking perspective on Chinese culture itself.

From my research, I’ve uncovered that the Western Zhou Dynasty fundamentally shaped Chinese philosophy and culture. Unlike other civilizations, ancient China developed without religion or a belief in divine gods. This distinct philosophical foundation is, in my view, the root cause of cultural differences between China and the West today—differences often mistaken as merely ideological or economic.

I know my book is dense and challenging, especially as it confronts established jade authorities on topics like jade vessels before the Ming Dynasty. However, I am unwavering in my mission: to uncover the truths of our ancestors and celebrate their incredible achievements. As I often say, “I came, I saw, I present.” Recognition or criticism doesn’t sway me—I simply do what I must.

That said, receiving this award fills me with pride and gratitude. It feels as though the jade gods themselves are smiling upon me.
